Have you ever read Proverbs 31:10-31? (Go read it now if you haven’t!)
It is not known for sure if this woman was real or not. Some will say she’s not because no one woman can be that perfect. Which is probably true. However, instead of focusing on the impossibility her life seems to set as an example, let’s take a step back and ask why God would set that expectation in His word in the first place?
Women have unique capabilities men do not (they actually tend to complement the capabilities of men). The Proverbs 31 woman shows us a work-life balance that blesses her, her husband, and her children. Can you say that your life has that trifecta blend of blessings? What I usually see in society is women either work really, really hard to bless her husband or her kids (sometimes both) while leaving themselves ragged and feeling less than blessed. Or, they hit a point where they recognize they’re ragged and flip the story to focusing more on themselves leaving their husband and children in the dust.
How did she do it? How did she wake up early in the morning, do all the things, and then go to bed after her family, prepare for the next day, and then start all over? How did she do all of that and not end up ragged?
The simple, yet not so simple, answer is her faith. Her faith is her foundation. God has fully equipped us as women to have a wonderful work-life balance to achieve the trifecta of blessings. The key is to pay attention each day to use His wisdom and understanding in our activities to discern what should be on our plate and what shouldn’t be that day or even at all.
Your blessed life could mean cutting out some things (i.e. processed foods, overcharging credit cards, putting your kids in all the activities, denying your husbands love language.)
Your blessed life could mean having courage to step up in places you’ve been too lazy or scared to take on (i.e. going to bed on time, homeschooling your kids, meal planning, picking up your Bible daily.)
How my life looks when I hit some blessed work-life balance moments is going to look different from what yours will look like. Only God knows how to get you there, and that’s why He should be your foundation in making all the decisions in every part of your day.
God gave us a wonderful helper, the Holy Spirit. As women, I believe we can be more aware of the Holy Spirit communicating with us innately. “A mother’s intuition” is what we sometimes call it. But, being in God’s word and listening for prodding from the Holy Spirit each day will slowly start to guide you towards your Proverbs 31 Warrior woman status.
Will it be every day, month, or year that you accomplish it? Nope, life is constantly changing. But, thankfully developing the habit of staying on your solid foundation, you can know your Foundation never changes and will always be there to help you.
